RX Aqualiner is a flexible pool lining material that is available in almost any colour. It is non-toxic, quick curing and fully bonded to provide an attractive, easily maintained, 100% watertight lining. Successful installations at uShaka Marine World
The existing liner applied to the Dolphin Show Pool at uShaka Marine World was causing extensive cleaning problems and had begun to break down. The dolphins were actually tugging at the liner and tearing it away. This was a serious risk as a dolphin could ingest the liner and suffer serious consequences.
The dolphins are cared for by SAAMBR and the facility is operated by Seaworld. Jointly, their concerns were that something had to be done urgently to restore the pool back to a safe and efficient operating condition. This led them to search and investigate a number of options. The result was to remove the existing liner and apply a more effective and safe non-toxic lining.
Dr Mark Penning and Judy Mann appointed Robex to supply and apply the Robex pool lining system. The liner is a liquid system applied by a roller with a nominal thickness of 1.2mm. The surface is tough and smooth, easy to clean and resistant to attack by the dolphins.
The results have exceeded expectations. Cleaning time was reduced from a team of more than 20 divers taking 5 days to clean the pool to a team of only 5 divers taking an average of only 5 hours. The surface is smooth and tough enough to resist attack by the dolphins and the simple process of wiping the surface clean does not abrade the liner or wear the surface away. The pool remains crystal clear making it a safe place to work and a pleasant viewing experience. The dolphins also seem to like the pool better, which is evident in the performance and quality of the shows presented.
Success with the Dolphin Show Pool led to Robex being appointed as the main contractor to
apply exactly the same specification on the Seal Show Pool, The Seal Exhibition Pool, The Penguin Pool, The Dolphin Interaction Pool and all the pools and tanks back-of-house in the Dolphinarium.
